We're all constantly bombarded with the male heroic
figure, in gaming culture as well as culture in general.
So the ladies who run Thumb Bandits thought why not
highlight the feminine hero (heroine) and give her
a little limelight of her own. This isn't seen as
a bad thing for the boys either since the sight of
a strong woman can be great for them too! Each month
we'll be highlighting a different strong / cool female character,
she can be real, virtual or acted and she'll be decided
on by the members of the Thumb Bandits community who
can suggest people or characters which we'll then
vote on.
We'd
realised our oversight (that we'd
somehow missed Annie herself in these
awards) and intended on making Annie
Oakley the Honorary Oakley for July
2005, but alas due to the 'kind folk'
*cough* at the Buffalo Bull Museum
we were unable to do so as they wanted
$40 per picture we showed in the article
despite us offering a reciprocal link
and explaining we have no money. The
picture in this announcement is used
with permission by Lisa
Grable and is the only one we
could get (elsewhere), thus no Annie
Oakley, the woman this award is named
after. Sad that this is the way of
the world, aint capitalism grand!
