Requiem
Of Hell
I’m not really a huge fan of
hack and slash type titles but I was
interested to see what Nokia had done
with this game to make it immersive
and detailed on the N-Gage. The first
positive point I noticed was that you
can play as either a male or a female
warrior named either Troy or Linda.
You are basically required to help save
the world from the evil king Dalu and
with the help of your fairy friend Gigi
you will battle on through this extensive
campaign.
The graphics are very nice to look at
and the different characters in the
game are very well animated and don’t
seem to suffer any slowdown when there
are other enemies on screen and trust
me you will come across plenty of them.
You can of course use many cool spells
to help you out on your war against
the nasties and these look very colourful
and bright, detracting from the fairly
standard backgrounds.
The audio is pretty run of the mill
and nothing to gasp at but it does a
good solid job and it has all the right
sound effects in all the right places.
Some of the written dialogue is badly
translated and this can be amusing and
will also have you thankful that the
lines aren’t spoken! The soundtrack
is very dramatic if a little repetitive
and irritating and even from the opening
credits you’ll realise that this
is meant to be an epic adventure which
immerses you in it’s sprawling
gameplay. Speaking of which, the gameplay
is pretty damn good. You will spend
a lot of your time fighting against
enemies in real time and they come at
you thick and fast. At times there were
at least ten enemies on the one screen
and they vary as you travel throughout
the world. This isn’t an easy
game, don’t expect to simply power
your way through it defeating enemies
left right and centre. You’ll
have to choose the right weapon for
the job and at times this leads you
into more danger. This is of course
a positive point as it means there’s
some strategy to it at least.
You can play this in single player mode
quite happily and although you can play
co-op multiplayer, don’t expect
the Arena support for this one, although
to be honest it really doesn’t
need it.
This is a pretty good RPG and if you
can overlook the annoying background
music you’re sure to progress
through this with much glee at just
how many enemies you can take down in
a short space of time. It looks fine,
it moves along nicely and aside from
the funny dialogue doesn’t seem
to have too many problems over all.
One of the better N-Gage titles out
there of this genre and good for female
gamers as you can choose to be a chick
if you want to. YAY
