Call
of Duty
Call Of Duty urges the gamer to relive
some of the combat of WWII as an American,
British and Russian soldier fighting
against the Nazis. The combat is varied
as is the environments you engage in
and Call Of Duty offers the gamer the
opportunity to experience the many facets
of fighting during wartime. There are
three 3D missions and it is being run
as a trial with Orange France at the
moment.
Controls can be perfect on this
game if you take the time to learn them!
There's your basic moving which comes
from the directional pad but theres
also the shooting button, strafe left
and right, duck, lay down, reload, pick
up etc. There's plenty of buttons here
to bash but you'll mainly rely on the
directional pad and the shoot button.
They're ok and they do the job as intended.
Take the time to familiarise yourself
with them because it'll make your gaming
life so much easier.
Graphically I was a little concerned
by this game when I first had a look
at it. The intro sequences are sweet
but the ingame graphics weren't really
what I was hoping for. I found it a
little bit blocky at times and sluggish
as well. It doesn't ruin the game though
and it's only a little negative point.
It certainly has enough graphically
to get the point of the game across
to the gamer and the overall feel is
fine but the draw distance and frame
rate were questionable at times.
Sound is fantastic on this game.
I really can't express how good it is
on a handheld. It's crisp and clear
and there's plenty of realistic sound
effects. Not as atmospheric perhaps
as some of the other FPS games around
but overall it does a brilliant job
and there's no complaints.
Gameplay is a strange one. I
didn't think this was up to much the
first time I played yet i found myself
wanting to keep going and I was adament
I'd finish the missions. The objectives
aren't too difficult overall so theres
not too much frustration but the game
isn't easy by any means. Watch out for
those horrible enemy traps or you'll
be almost finished a mission and gloating
with glee when you suddenly explode
and its game over. A good degree of
difficulty on each of the four settings
allows you to chose your own ability
level. It is a very intriguing game,
you do get sucked in and you want to
know what's going to happen next.
Multiplayer is as yet un reviewed
since sadly I only have one copy of
the game, should this change in future
I will most definitely update this review
and let you all know how the head to
head combat is on Call Of Duty.
Female Gamer Angle isn't an
option really here. There are no female
characters and it's very much the boys
who take centre stage in this WWII game.
It doesn't really matter because at
the end of the day your aim is to blast
the enemies and complete the missions
so girls who like this kind of game
are going to get plenty out of it anyway.
Overall this is a good game
because it is fun to play. It isn't
the best game graphically but the aim
of the game and the gameplay is solid
and captivating and these are what make
the game a fairly decent FPS. The additional
downloads which are available as well
as the different ability levels and
optional combat modes add to the games
longevity and depth. Worth a look if
you're into being a soldier for fun
but be warned, stock up on first aid
when you can because you're going to
need it.
